About Town: Open Streets

This Sunday, you won't want to miss it! The newest Near Southside event is Open Streets, presented by FWSI and the City of Fort Worth for the first time in 2011. The event closes Magnolia Avenue and other streets to traffic and opens them up to cyclists, food trucks, dog-walkers, skateboarders, yoga classes, facepainters and much more.

The event is an expression of the Near Southside’s community spirit in every way: local businesses set up activities along the route; neighborhood residents help spread the word about street closures and detours; and dozens of event volunteers work hard on all aspects of the event, from planning routes and activities months before the event, to setting up and breaking down barricades on event day.

Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, the first Open Streets in 2011 drew hundreds and created another successful neighborhood event that we’ll repeat again.

Be sure and head over to Brewed.  Just about the coolest place around town to grab a beer, a bite or a cup of joe in the most beautiful setting there is. When you step inside you won't want to leave. A couple of the owners rented a truck and cruised all over the state to find the most unique items to fill the interior. And they weren't afraid to pick things off of the curb. Girls after my own heart. And to top it off, they've got a dog friendly patio!

Be sure and follow along with their Community News to keep up with what's going on next. Their creatives minds often get a get group together to craft some awesome project. During the holidays they were making felted garland, snow globes and more to decorate the place.

For Open Streets, Brewed will be throwing their 2nd Etsy Craft Fair starting at Noon & then will have FREE outdoor Yoga at 1:00!

The "Etsy Craft Fair” will take place in front of BREWED from 12:00pm-5:00pm. We are letting some of the areas best creatives & artisans set up shop on our patio and sell their hand crafted one of a kind goods. It’s a great opportunity to do some great shopping for some local hand made products!

And yep, you'll find Red Dog Barkery set up amongst them.

At 1:00pm we are offering a free outdoor urban yoga experience! Shannon Jones from Indigo Yoga will be leading an exciting outdoor FREE yoga class. So come grab brunch at BREWED that morning and then work off the calories with a little yoga!

You are in for a fun outdoor day in Fort Worth!
