2013 Empty Bowls Event

Hunger is Here in North Texas.

But you can help! It's pretty simple really. Buy one single ticket to the 11th Annual Empty Bowls event on Thursday, March 28, then sit back and give yourself a little pat on the back because your single $45 donation will provide 225 MEALS to  people in your community.

Yep, you can provide 225 MEALS to hungry people, all by yourself!

It's being called the "Artful Event to End Hunger" and it's one of the most fun things that I do all year, so DON'T MISS THIS! The only catch is that YOU HAVE TO PRE-ORDER YOUR TICKETS,  and they are going fast.

Here's the scoop:
Thursday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
West and Central Rooms, Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall
Will Rogers Memorial Center
3401 West Lancaster, Fort Worth 76107

Let's Talk About Being Hungry

It's not just homeless people who have trouble getting three meals of any kind every day. It's the little old lady next door, the quiet kid in your little girl's class, your cousin who lost his job and is trying to make it on unemployment alone.... it's the military family with three kids and Dad deployed overseas. Maybe it's your family.

The Tarrant Area Food Bank and it's 300 partner charities provide emergency groceries each month for 45,000 households with more than 340,000 meals served at senior centers, after-school programs, and shelters. 40 percent of these meals go to children.

So What's Empty Bowls?

Empty Bowls is simply the Tarrant Area Food Bank’s most popular fundraiser. For the last eleven years, ceramic artists all over the area have used their time and talents to create bowls of all sizes. These bowls are then hand glazed and decorated by all kinds of volunteers on 'glazing days' in studios around the Metroplex every month.

The volunteers are not just artists either, bowls are decorated by school kids, grandmas and just plain people who want to do something personally to help their community.

It's Glazing Day at Hart Street Pottery.

Show Me Some of These Bowls!

Well, I can't show you the 2013 bowls, that would ruin the surprise! But I can show you some of my favorites from last year's Event...

Closeup of one of the Gallery Bowls

You get to pick out your own bowl to take home!

Picking just one is the hardest part...

Glass, wood, pottery, ceramic...bowls of EVERY kind!

A piece from one of my favorite contributing artists, Paula Cadle.

Another gorgeous offering at the Gallery Bowl table.

My 2012 Gallery Bowl donation piece.

There's going to be more than 2,500 bowls to choose from, so wear your comfy shoes. But once you've grabbed one of those, you might be tempted to come see me at the Bump Table to swap it for one of the bigger and even more fabulous bowls available for trade in and a small additional fee.

Come purchase one of the truly exquisite pieces on the Gallery Table for a $100 donation. That's another 500 MEALS! Or bid on one of the Celebrity bowls designed by names like Amy Grant & Vince Gill, Dr. Oz and even the members of the Manhattan Transfer.

But What Else Do I get With My Ticket?

Oh yeah, did I mention the FOOD? Once you pick out your complimentary bowl to take home, it's time to munch, nibble, slurp and gnosh your way around the room. This year you can sample wonderful soups and desserts from 30+ Fort Worth high end and casual restaurants and caterers. Here's just a short list:

Aventino's Italian Restaurant
La Familia
The Reata
Michaels Cuisine
McKinley's Fine Bakery and Cafe
Next Wood Fired Bistro & Vino Bar
Paris Coffee Shop
Riscky's Bar-B-Q
Shinjuku Station Japanese Dining
Tim Love Catering
Truluck's Seafood
Vidalias Southern Cuisine
Wild Mushroom Steak House

There's Even A Raffle!

Among other things, you can enter a raffle with a $25 ticket and win the cool little DRAGON-RED VESPA LX 150 SCOOTER shown below.

Funny guy driving is optional. Must provide your own.

The best part for me? Knowing that I can use a little of my time and my small talents and make a BIG impact on the growing problem of hunger.

The best part for you though? It's the complete satisfaction that you will have in knowing that you had a part in helping to feed hungry people, maybe in your own neighborhood. All proceeds from the sales, raffle tickets, Silent Auction items...the whole shebang, go directly to the TAFB and into the community.

See you at the Bump Tables!
