Hostess Gifts

Whenever I'm invited to someone's home I always take a hostess gift and I love to get them too! But not just the last minute bottle of wine (though always welcome), but I prefer to put a little thought into it. Here are some great ideas from a June edition of Martha Stewart I picked up at Half Price Books.

These are a few of my favorites.

Embellished cork coasters are a personal, practical hostess gift (protecting tables from guests' frosty glasses). Create a set for your hostess, tie together with ribbon, and give with a bottle of booze.

Pie caddy - I'm not a baker, but if I were, I love this twist on a carrier. It's a bamboo steamer. Especially since it has plenty of other uses.
Vintage gardening or cook books - you can always pick these up for a $1 or $2 at your local estate or garage sale. Now you have a reason. I especially love to pick up old books that have handwritten notes in them. Not only do you get a little piece of someone's past, you might also get some really special secrets too.

Whatever you pack up be sure to include a handwritten note!

What's the most clever hostess gift you've ever given, or received?
