Friday Foodie: What My Skin Did on Summer Vacation

It's summertime, YAY! That means tons of fun in the sun, salt water, chlorine... Trips out to the ballpark, the zoo, in an airplane... Lots of ice cream, pizza, fast food, beer... Like I said, TONS of fun! But maybe not so much fun for your skin.

But no worries, here are some quick and easy things you can do to Rescue, Restore and Renew your skin. And the best part is that the ingredients all come out of your fridge!!

Oops! I Got Too Much Sun Facial

INGREDIENTS: Small handful of green grapes 1 teaspoon honey OR 1 small egg yolk

DIRECTIONS: Smoosh the grapes until pulpy. Pick out any really big grape skin pieces because they will just get in the way. Mix in either the honey or the egg yolk. Rinse your poor little sun burned face with warm water and spread on the mask. Yes, it will be a little gloppy but leave for 15 minutes then rinse with warm (NOT hot) water.

Grapes are a great natural cleanser that lifts the dry skin and yukky stuff out of your pores. But even better, they are FULL of alpha-hydroxy, the same ingredient found in expensive anti-wrinkle creams. So, eat 'em, smoosh 'em or drink 'em .. grapes are wonderful for you in all kinds of nifty ways.

This mixture won't keep well, so this recipe is for a one mask.

Stressed Out Skin Relax and Refresh Mask

INGREDIENTS: 1 tablespoon plain yogurt 1 inch banana, sliced. You can also use peaches or apricots 1 teaspoon honey

Starting with the fruit, gently smoosh it until pretty smooth and there are no big lumps. Then mix together with the remaining ingredients. Wash your face and leave skin damp. Pat the yogurt and fruit mixture over your face and neck. Yes, it will be gloppy but leave it on and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm (NOT hot) water.

Bananas are rich in vitamins A, B and E and so have great anti-aging benefits. Plain yogurt has a high zinc content which helps fight acne but it also softens and lifts the yukky stuff that gets in your pores and causes your complexion to look dull. Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts moisture to your skin, literally out of the air. Put these three ingredients together and you get soft, smooth skin and bright, clear complexion. This mixture can be made in greater amounts and will keep in the fridge for up to 2 days. It's also edible!

 Strawberry Skin Saver Facial

INGREDIENTS: 1-2 ripe or overripe strawberries 1 - 1/2 teaspoons corn starch DIRECTIONS: Smoosh the strawberries together in a small bowl, then add enough cornstarch to soak up the extra liquid and thicken it into a paste.
Apply the paste all over your face. (avoid around your eyes) It will be gloppy and turn your skin a nice rosy pink but don't worry, it's not permanent.

Leave the paste on until dry or for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm (NOT hot) water. Strawberry are full of vitamin C and antioxidants, but more importantly, salicylic acid. That's the essential ingredient in any expensive spa style "fruit peel" facial that gently lifts and dissolves the complexion dulling dead skin gunk that blocks your pores, as well as any microscopic dry skin flakes.

What's the end result of playing with your food? Skin that looks perfect, with a sheer glow, tight pores and the Ultimate Baby's Butt softness.
