Spotlight Moment: The Tangled Web

Photobucket

The Tangled Web Store, DFW, owned by Christi Davenport (bun bun) and Shirley Crow (raven).

Tell us a bit about yourself. What is the first thing you can remember making by hand? How and why did you make it?

The first thing I remember making from hand was a small cross stitch piece my Grandma Shirley taught me to make. Christi's is a quilt her Grandmother had her help with. Sadly my cross stitch piece is long gone, but Christi still has the quilt.

What inspires you? Where do your ideas come from?
I get ideas from every where; a trip to the store, magazines, TV shows, fashion trends. I love taking a ball of yarn and making something out of it, that still a fascination for me.

What are your favorite materials?
Yarn, wire, fabric, thread, spindles, wool, cotton.

Any tips for selling handmade stuff?
Don't give up, keep trying, keep learning, and listen to your gut.
Apart from creating things, what do you do?
Christi is a homemaker, and a student. I am a student, magazine owner, religious leader, teacher.

What handmade possession do you most cherish?
A little clay witch my house mate made for me she has an Etsy shop too. My laptop bag, t-shirt, and jacket that Christi made for me.

What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?
Enjoy it, don't worry to much.

How do you promote your work?
Word of mouth, shows, local businesses

Please describe your creative process how, when, materials, etc.
Christi has to have her machine running if she is sitting at her computer and the machine isn't going she feels something is wrong. I work on things when ever I have the chance meetings, tv time, waiting rooms.

What first made you want to become an artist?

It is in our blood we both come from long lines of crafters it was destiny.
