Spotlight Moment

Stephanie and Chase "Frog" Moyes
are a husband and wife creative powerhouse!
When asked what was the first thing they remember making, their answer...
"A mess.
Trying to screen-print a t-shirt. We decided we had all of these great ideas that needed to be printed....not fully realizing what we were getting ourselves into!"

Take a moment to learn more about this dynamic duo!

What inspires you? Where do your ideas come from?

Star Wars & Rock 'n Roll. We can't do anything without a Star Wars influence.
Not only do we have two posters in our work space, but we also have a display of
our collection Star Wars action figures that watches over us.
As far as that's concerned we can't leave out our cats. They supervise everything we do.

What are your favorite materials?

quilting hoops, fabric, spray paint, sharpies, stencils, pretty fabric, beads, hot glue, and plenty of other craft standards :)

Any tips for selling handmade stuff?

Make quality stuff with lots of love.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?

Chase is currently a student studying broadcasting and in his free time plays in a band called Zombie Shark Attack!
Stephanie is also currently a student studying geology and in her free time likes to rest and play with the kitties.

What handmade possession do you most cherish?
Our copy of our wedding invitations that were made by another Etsy Fort Worth member, Caroline Creates.

What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?
Study, study, study. Read the storque articles, watch what other successful sellers do, look for advice columns and test things out for yourself.
Not every shop is the same so it is important to find what works for you!

How do you promote your work?
Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, participating in local craft fairs, maintaining a blog, giving our Sketch label shirts to friends to wear, and leaving flyers
and business cards everywhere we possibly can.

In ten years I'd like to be...

Doing well enough to have a larger craft space! Being a professional geologist, musician or local on-air talent are of course options as well!

Please describe your creative process how, when, materials, etc.

Right now we don't really have a set schedule for anything.
We make whatever comes to mind, usually at night after work and school. Sometimes
that requires going and getting new supplies and other times we get creative with whatever we already have around the apartment.

What first made you want to become an artist?
I found out the Ninja Turtles were all named after artists and at 5 years old
I wanted to do anything I could to be more like the Ninja Turtles.

Great couple of artists! And a couple! I'm glad my boyfriend and I are the only ones who make a mess together. Great interview.
